Reflection at FYWC
I chose the “A Look at Cultures” for the oral presentation at FYWC. Why did I chose this topic? Because I was interested in the cultural differences between the United States and China. Moreover, I was very excited when I can learn more culture about America and China. In this session, I heard four oral presentations. They are “My first-Year Writing Experience” & “Culture Shock”, “Different Culture/Food/Dialects of Our Cities”, “The Frog in the Shallow Well” and "Inside and Outside".
I learned some WRA class experience and some culture shock in the first oral presentation. The major assignments can help us learn more culture differences between America and China. Chinese and American are came from different background, so they owned different culture. Moreover, the lecturer also talked about "To become a critical thinker" is a important way in the study. After that, I knew critical thinking can help me find some new questions and draw some new conclusions.

I learned some different cultures, food and dialects in the second oral presentation. The lecturer show us differences from American and China by video. However, it was a very interesting video. It showed that Chinese often eat rice and noodles for meal, but Americans often eat hamburger and sandwich. Moreover, the video also showed that China is developing rapidly and everywhere are high buildings and the streets are so clean. To develop friendly cooperation between China and the United is of vital importance.

The third oral presentation is talk a story about the frog. I learned that I cannot be complacent. I cannot feel happy and satisfy with owned view right now. I cannot learn the frog that it was in the shallow well. I should go outside to see the world in new and different ways.

The forth oral presentation is talk about inside and outside of the writing class. I learned how make success in this class, such as I should be critical when reading and writing. I also can use that writing skill to do other subject assignment. Actually, I think it is very helpful presentation.
